Monday 24 September: Hook-of-Holland - Harwich ferry and train to London

After a couple of days of welcome rest in The Hague we book we used the Stena Line web site to book onto the set off for the short ride to Hook of Holland, this time following the LF1 North Sea Route through the dunes. The weather had finally broken and we were faced with a very fierce headwind and intermittent rain. Fortumately we had set off early, so we pressed on sheltering wherever we could from the worst showers and arrived just as the ferry was open for boarding. The lengthy (6.5 hour crossing) passed qiuckly, with some decent food from the cafeteria and a visit to the on-board cinema to watch The Bourne Ultimatum. The ferry docked in good time to catch the last through train to London. The guard kindly allowed us to wheel the unseperated tandem onto the almost-empty train. We reached Liverpool Street by 10:30 and home by 11:30 pm.

Today's distance: 20 km, weather: atrocious.
