This was the second part of an interrupted trip that began from Calais in September (the first part is described here). We were lucky enough to be able to leave the tandem in Grenoble with Xavier and Claudine. But Xavier's woodworking sawdust might have entered its mechanism if we had left it in their garage for too long!
So we decided to resume the tour in early November. Most chambres d'hotes, hotels and restaurants were still open and there was no competition for rooms. We were lucky with the autumn climate; it was quite cold at first, but we saw no rain and it warmed dramatically as we reached the Alpes Maritimes and beyond.
