Some of the chambres d'hôtes

Except when we wanted to stay in a town, we always tried to find a chambre d'hôte. We generally booked each evening for the next day. We used the guides provided by Gîtes de France and purchased in advance via their web site at /www.gites-de-france.fr/. For the first stage of our trip we used the Ille-et-Vilaine section of the Britanny guide, and the Pays de la Loire guide. For the second stage (after the river Loire) we used the Poitou Charentes guide. However, we were unable to get a guide for the Périgord area, even after asking in numerous tourists offices, although they did photocopy some addresses for us. For the third stage (after the Dordogne) we used the Midi-Pyrénées guide. For the last stage, we were unable to get the guide to Languedoc-Roussillon, although we did obtain its Hérault section. The addresses and phone numbers of the places we stayed are given in our diary pages.

The château at Montreuil sur Loir where we stayed for our 4th night.

The Moulin de Vindrac, near Cordes where we stayed for two nights during the 3rd stage of our journey.

L'Hermitage at Civray, which is a small town on the river Charente, about 50 km south of Poitiers.

L'age Baston, at St. Projet, near Rocehfoucault, a beautifully restored logis from 1th - 19th centuries.
